Registration Night Monday the 20th of October at 5:00 pm at Elsternwick Park main club rooms. The Elsternwick Cricket Club (ECC) is currently undergoing unprecedented expansion in its junior ranks, and as part of that expansion we have identified the need to provide the same opportunities for girls to play cricket as we do for boys. Last season, ECC in affiliation with Star of the Sea College fielded a team in the South East ‘SunSmart Under 17 Girls Cricket Competition’. We are looking to expand to two teams in the coming season. The season is split into two, running from early November to Christmas, and late January to early March. There are 6 rounds plus finals in each competition period. 20 over matches are played on Friday nights at King George Reserve in East Bentleigh from 5:30pm to 7:45pm. The focus of the competition is on participation and enjoyment rather than competitiveness. Teams play under modified rules which means everyone gets a fair and equal go, and the location is such that they didn’t feel threatened or feel ‘on show’ to the public. In short, it is a safe, fun and well-supervised introduction to cricket for young girls. We are committed to expanding our girl’s teams, coaching structure and opportunities such that girls can participate freely and safely. Ultimately, ECC hopes to expand to the point where we can field a Women’s Premier Cricket team (the highest non-regional level for women in the state), as well as several junior girls teams, plus regular introductory coaching sessions designed around the highly successful ‘Milo-have-a-go” format. In order to go forward with our plans however, we need to judge levels of interest from the community so as to design our processes properly and so that your daughter or sister can get the most out of her membership with ECC. SO...if your daughter, sister, cousin or anyone you know would like to play cricket in a safe, well-coached, well-supervised environment where the focus is on fun and getting a fair go, please contact female cricket coordinator Adam Fraine or club secretary Cameron Christiansen , as we hope to provide the opportunities for her to do so!
